Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you

Woman holding a mug - I can't even

Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they're supposed to help you discover who you are. - Bernice Johnson Reagon

We’re settling into a new ‘normal.’ I’ve been reflecting on how I want to show up during these difficult times. For the first few days, I checked every news site continually, and this caused me to feel more anxious and fall off my practices. I drank more and watched lots of tv to numb the anxiety.

Then, I chose to choose again.

That’s the beauty of practices - we’re always at a choice point. We can show up in fear or love. We can show up scattered or grounded. I want to show up in compassion and kindness. It doesn’t negate the fear and sadness all around.

By choosing to show up with compassion and kindness, I can offer more support to those around me, especially my loved ones and colleagues, a few of whom are at risk.

I choose to connect (virtually) more often and check in. I’m gentle with myself as I’ve been moving slowly and am more distractible. I listen to soothing music as I drink my coffee. I take more walks with my dog.

It’s tempting to keep refreshing our newsfeeds but ask yourself, is this practice helping?

Ask, what practices would help you at this moment? Deep breathing, more naps, less internet, a book.

I want to share a link to my webinar as the key shifts I share still apply today, especially the piece about feeling the feelings.

My body has been signaling to me that I need to slow down and be more in my body, instead of my head, asking too many ‘what if’s.’ So I simply have been looking out my window taking deep breaths with my hand on my heart.

Let me know what simple practices have been helping you lately. Also, I’d love to hear from you as I’m reworking my webinar and would love to know what would serve you better.

Until next time, as always, be gentle & kind to yourself.
